Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. Depending on your
needs, your dentist will design a partial denture for you. A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to
your teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking. In some cases, a removable partial denture is made to
attach to your natural teeth with devices called precision attachments. Precision attachments are generally more esthetic than clasps
Removable partial dentures are dentures that only replace a few missing teeth
Partial dentures needs good support from healthy surrounding gums and teeth. It has a clasp which bonds to the teeth. Depending
on the need, the clasp can be made a metal or gum colored.
Jaw relations can be classified into 3 categories
1-Orientation jaw relation.
2-Vertical jaw relation .
3-Horizontal jaw relation.
1-Orientation relation: It is the reference to cranium in such a way that the mandible is kept in
most posterior position to the cranium and can rotate around an imaginary transverse axis which
passes through both condyles. Face bow used to transfer this relation.
2-Vertical jaw relation: It is the relation of the mandible to the maxilla in vertical dimension
3-Horizontal jaw relation: It is the relation etween the mandible and maxilla in the anterio-
posterior and side to side direction.
On this step, new impression taken of mouth – this is called the master impression and it will be
poured up to make a model on which the complete denture will be made.
. When taking impressions, the dentist needs to mould the impression to the muscles of your cheeks,
tongue and lips. To do this they will gently pull and . massage them whilst holding the tray down and
ask you to stick your tongue out and from side to side. They may ask you to purse your lips, say
‘ooooh’ and ‘eeeeh’ and swallow . . There are time when modifications to the techniques may be
needed e.g. for a flabby ridge.
